Custom-made Blades in Creating a Natural Looking Hair Transplant

There are many factors involved in creating a natural hair transplant. I have seen many hair transplant Los Angeles clients come into our clinic with very unnatural results from a previous procedure. By analyzing their scalp and their hairline, I can determine that a contributing reason for the unnatural appearance is the less advanced technology used in creating the hairline. Advanced technology plays a key role in making sure one has the best outcome possible. In creating the hairline, the key technologies include high magnification loupes, utilization of high-powered microscopes and custom-made blades.

The focus of this article will be on the use of custom-made chisel blades in creating incision sites. Very often, regular needles of 20 or 21 gauge are used to create the incision sites on the scalp. Incision sites are the small sites where the hair grafts are inserted in the balding areas. When regular needles are used to create such sites, a hole larger than needed is created. This may result in an unnatural hairline. With new advances in technology, we are currently custom-making our own blades. Unlike needles, these are 0.8 millimeter custom-made chisel blades. They are very small and they make a small cut into the scalp at the depth of 0.4 millimeters. Thus, the hair follicles can be inserted into the smallest size hole possible. The hair follicles fit the small incision site so well that there is no room for the hair to change direction. The use of custom-made blades allows for an undetectable hairline that is so natural that people don't even notice you've had a hair transplant.

At Dermatology and Hair Restoration Specialists, Dr. Sean Behnam only utilizes custom-made chisel blades of 0.8mm in size to create the hairline. This results in the most natural and undetectable result.
