What is Hair Transplant?

Strip harvesting hair transplant is a method where a strip of hair is removed from the back of the scalp and individual hair grafts are then implanted in the balding areas. There are three major steps; harvesting of the donor hair strip, dissecting the donor strip into individual hair grafts and implanting the hair grafts into the recipient sites in the balding areas.

During the strip removal from the donor site, no general anesthesia is used. Using local anesthetics, Dr. Sean Behnam numbs the area and meticulously removes a strip of skin containing hair follicles from the rear side of the scalp.

The donor site is then closed. Dr. Sean Behnam firmly believes that proper suturing and closure of the donor site results in the most minimal scar. Thus, he employs the NEW Trichophytic technique and spends as much time as necessary delicately suturing the donor site on the back of scalp.

Using advanced stereoscopic microscopes, experienced surgical technicians then dissect each hair grafts into less than 1 millimeter width. Yes, less than a 1 millimeter width! This method can be accomplished only with an experienced surgical staff and advanced microscopes. These ensure there is no transection of follicular units during the harvesting and dissecting process.

One of the most important aspects of a hair transplant is the recipient site creation. Dr. Sean Behnam uses the most cutting edge technology and custom-made blades to create the incision sites at the recipient area. He does not use any syringe needles or punches to create any of the sites. His custom-made blades are very small, only 0.8 millimeters wide, allowing for increased density packing and maximizing the coverage. In addition, it is very important that the recipient sites are angled correctly so the implanted hairs look natural.

The final step requires implanting the follicular grafts into the incision sites created. Dr. Sean Behnam uses special magnifying loupes and takes his time to make sure every angle and direction of each hair graft is appropriate. Dr. Sean Behnam ’s patience, meticulous attention to detail and his precise implementation of the above mentioned techniques allow for creation of a very natural, undetectable hair transplant.
